We are pleased to introduce Casey Paugh. She’s an artist, wife, and mom of 6 kids. Her faith and family are very important to her, and when she is not creating, you will likely find her in the stands cheering on her very active children. Her artwork is available at Keepsake Christmas Shoppe in Kremmling, and at Where Art Thou in Grand Lake.
Questions:
Q: Are you a Grand County native?
A: I consider myself as a Grand County native, I moved to Grand Lake when I was 8. I more or less grew up here and went to college in Ohio. I have always told my husband that I am a Colorado girl! We lived in Ohio for a little bit and located back here when a job at the schools opened for him.
Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?
A: I feel like I have several careers going, my kids being one of them and then we are also foster parents. I try to fit in my artwork, it had always been a hobby for me, but in the last two years, it has developed into something more. As a kid, I always loved art. I started mostly with acrylics painting on canvases and I have done a lot of pencil and charcoal drawings. I had the opportunity to paint windows at the library in Granby. Then I painted the windows at the recreation center, some homes, and other businesses. I also crochet and knit. I had complications with my third pregnancy, and while I was in the hospital, my doctor came in and taught me to knit. From there, I started making baby items and now am doing my glasswork.
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Grand County, and what do you love there?
A: We really like Maverick’s, I like their French fries!
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in Grand County?
A: Donna Lyons, she’s a Grand Lake lady. She is an artist and was my art teacher when I first moved here.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: I would love to go to Israel. I would love to just walk where Jesus walked and see and experience the things I read about in the Bible.
Q: What is your favorite movie OR what is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
A: The first one I remember seeing was Lion King, the cartoon.
Q: What advice would you give someone moving to Grand County?
A: It’s practical advice: I would say you need a wood stove where we live. I just love the radiant heat and when it’s cold (and since winter is so long) it makes a big difference for me. But aside from that, I would suggest connecting with the healthy, active group (like a church group or athletic team) right away because life is tough up here.
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: I am not fond of bucket lists. I have traveled a little bit and I feel pretty content.
Q: What is your favorite music/ 3 bands you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: I am not a big band person, I like to listen to contemporary Christian music like TobyMac or Danny Gokey.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?
A: I love to just sit down and do art of all kinds, like painting, drawing, crafts, and crochet. I like to do it all, and uninterrupted, which does not happen often!
Q: Choosing anyone alive and a non-relative with whom would you love to have lunch?
A: I would like to have lunch with George W. Bush. I have only seen him on TV but I feel like he has a really easy-going and fun personality, and he seems like a loving father figure. I would love to sit down with him and take him to Grand Lake Lodge.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about Grand County?
A: I love the aspen colors in the fall.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?
A: I figure in 10 years I will still be at home. But I dream to own a little shop here where I would have my art for display and for purchase. I would like to teach art classes out of the shop and possibly even operate it as a combo bed and breakfast.
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
A: I was once an adjunct professor (teaching Tennis) in College, just for a short time; and an assistant tennis coach at the college level.
Q: What 3 words or phrases that come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
A: Home is a place to relax, feel loved and just be me.
Q: If you had a full-time staff member that was fully paid for, who would you choose? Chef, Housekeeper, Driver, Coach, Physical Fitness Trainer, or Nanny?
A: I would choose a Chef because I’m really bad at meal planning and people in my family are always hungry!
Q: If you were cast into a major motion picture and had your choice of anyone to be your co-star, who would you choose?
A: Robert Downey Jr., I love his humor in Ironman.
Q: What is one business or activity that you would like to see in Grand County that currently isn’t here?
A: I would like to see an indoor tennis center.
