Meet Lindsay Karge–hair slayer, virtual fitness coach, rock climber, mountain biker, skier–is there anything she can’t do? Not likely! If there were, she would tackle it head-on with an unconquerable spirit and can-do energy!
Questions:
Q: Are you a Grand County native? If not, where you from, and what brought you to Grand County?
A: Nope. I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. I moved here because I had always wanted to be in the mountains and exploring. While living in Denver and hiking here in the Fall, I was lucky enough to find Fraser Hair Co and decided to check it out and apply to work with them!
Q: How long have you lived or worked in Grand County?
A: I have lived and worked up here since November of 2015. I have worked at Fraser Hair Co the whole time and have taken on part-time work at the resort to reap the benefits and get a pass to ski.
Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career? What do you love most about what you do?
A: I’ve always wanted to do hair. Ever since my mom worked as a receptionist at a salon, I would go there, watch ladies slay hair and be like, “WOW!”. You can make people feel so good about themselves and truly make a difference! I also started virtual coaching within the health and fitness industry. The thing I love about that is it goes hand in hand with helping people feel good. With hair, it is an instant fix, but with health and fitness, it is long term! Moral of the story, I love helping people feel good on all spectrums!
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in Grand County, and what are your favorite meals there?
A: Hands down, Durbar. It is such a great environment, and, man, are their curry dishes amazing! My husband and I love splitting a meal and an appetizer, and of course, their homemade Naan bread! You can’t go wrong! I love Pepe Osaka’s as well. Their fresh fish and atmosphere are fantastic. They make a killer sauce that tops all their tacos, whether they are land or fish tacos, and who doesn’t love a good tequila-infused marg??!
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in Grand County? And why?
A: Eileen Waldow–she has lived here forever, her father wrote a book about WWII, she was also our landlord for at least two years and the most amazing kind-hearted woman. She even has Doc Susie’s portrait in her house, which is amazing to see!
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: As much as I love snow, if I could travel anywhere in the world right now, it would have to be somewhere in the desert (Utah) or if we are talking international travels, Spain. My husband and I are big into rock climbing, so warm weather is a must to be able to enjoy it truly, and our fur baby, Kai, loves hanging out in the warm sun while we climb all day!
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
A: Chasing Mavericks. It is a fantastic movie with Gerald Butler as one of the main characters. I love how this movie dives into fear. Gerard Butler makes this young boy write lots of papers to be able to SURF a big known wave, called Mavericks. I have watched it countless times, and on one occasion, I decided to write a paper on my fear and really dive into what was the main root of it. It took me by surprise, but I learned a lot about myself.
Q: What advice would you give someone moving to Grand County?
A: Our small valley is one of a kind, so make sure when you are out and about, whether biking, hiking, driving, skiing, to slow down, take a deep breath, and truly soak in the views. They are freaking insane, and, shoot, YOU LIVE HERE NOW!
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: Bucket lists = goals to me. So one big goal I have is eventually owning land with my husband, building a cool home that is functional and tiny, but not TOOOOO tiny. I want to build a killer greenhouse and get animals for our land–chickens, goats, and of course, more dogs!
Q: What is your go-to band or favorite music when you can’t decide what to listen to?
A: I will typically always go to Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, CCR, and even the Beach Boys. (anything in that genre is GREAT!) My parents definitely had an influence there.
Q: What do you like to do during your free time?
A: I love skiing, (resort or backcountry) rock climbing when it’s in season, spending time on the river, xc biking or downhill at the resort, taking Kai on fun walks and adventures, and hanging out with friends around a fire!
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative, with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you take them for lunch?
A: Michelle Parker; I met her at a SAFEAS clinic for avalanche awareness, and she is such an inspiration. Not only is she a professional skier, but she cares about the community, and she dabbles in rock climbing too!
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about Grand County?
A: Being so close to the Continental Divide and having so many outdoor activities within minutes of our own backyards.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?
A: This goes back to those goals/Bucket List things…owning land is HUGE. That doesn’t mean I want to live there full time YET, but having something to eventually retire on will be amazing. Knowing that we can create a livable space off the land and even implement sustainable ways of living is HUGE to me.
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
A: I had played soccer since I was at least five years old and went on and played in college.
Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been to?
A: Rocky Mountain National Park — Colin (my husband) and I got a bivy permit to do an overnight trip while we climbed Sharks Tooth, an alpine climb in RMNP. Bivies are only given to climbers, and we posted up in this neat little cave, no tents allowed and slept in it with sleeping pads and bags that we hiked in. The view from the cave was INSANE—miles and miles with views of mountains and that beautiful Colorado alpenglow.
Q: If you were cast in a movie and could choose your co-star, who would it be?
A: Tay Zercher.
Q: If you had a full-time staff member that was fully paid for, who would you choose? Chef, Housekeeper, Driver, Coach, Physical Fitness Trainer, or Nanny?
A: A pro gardener — so I could learn all of their tips and tricks to growing the most magnificent house plants and herbs and other foods to consume.
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
A: Truth — the ladies I work with virtually every day. I have never been around women who are more driven and are also about empowering each other, too. It is insane to think that I have met so many incredible people through the internet, but I have grown a lot with them by my side.
Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
A: Pizza and Lavender.
Q: What is that one business that you would like to see in grand County that currently isn’t here.
A: A rock climbing gym that allows lead climbing and has more than a couple of routes.
Q: What 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
A: Consistency, Comfort, and Love.
