Shug Reynolds

Shug Reynolds is a fifth-generation Grand County resident and the type of guy you want on your team. He works hard on and off the field. Shug will be attending Chadron State College in Nebraska this fall and will be throwing heaving things for the track team. We wish Shug all the best in his future endeavors!

Q: What High School do you attend?

A: Middle Park High School.

Please tell us a little bit about your family. My mom works at Granby Play Days Preschool. My dad works at the Granby Sanitation district. My sister goes to CSU. I spend a lot of time with my family in the outdoors. My family has been in Grand County for five generations

Please tell us about your current plans after high school and what inspired you to choose this path? I plan to go to Chadron State College. They have a good track team and they have a very cool program that has lots of hands-on learning. It is also fairly close.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?

A: Julio’s and their carnitas burrito. Java Lava for their Mama’s burrito.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community? Why?

A: I think the most interesting person I’ve met in Grand County is Coach Polei. He has lived a very interesting life and gets to go to amazing places all the time.

Q: What was your favorite class in high school?

A: My favorite was science classes.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows? What are you binge-watching right now?

A: The Waterboy and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Q: What is the best advice you ever received from a teacher? Who was the teacher?

A: The best advice I’ve gotten was from Coach Nagel and that advice is “nobody cares”.

Q: What is your favorite memory from high school?

A: My favorite memory from high school was Home Coming.

Q: What is your go-to band or favorite music when you can’t decide what to listen to?

A: Midland.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

A: My parents and my coaches.

Q: If you could choose anyone to have lunch with, who would you choose? Why? And where, locally, would you meet for this lunch?

A: I would have lunch with Coach Ledford. It would be great to see him. I would take him to Debbie’s Drive In.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?

A: I like how small and close the community is.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

A: I see myself in a job that I love. Starting a family and getting a house.

Q: Who or what do you miss the most right now?

A: I miss track meets.

Q: If you could go back and make one change from your school career what would it be?

A: I would lift more.

Q: What’s the first thing you want to do when this quarantine is over?

A: Go to Top Golf.
