I sat down with Tanner Neiberger shortly after he started his new hauling business, F3 Trucking. LLC. He is growing that business while also working with Grand County EMS as an EMT. A big guy, with an even bigger heart, Tanner was born and raised in Grand County and is a 2018 graduate of Middle Park High School.
Questions:
Q: Are you a Grand County native? If not, where you are from and what brought you here in Grand County?
A: Yes, I am a Grand County native, I was born and raised here. My dad worked on the East Grand Middle School when my family lived on the Front Range. He loved it up here so much he decided to start his own business, a construction company, and they moved here in 1998.
Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?
A: So, for EMS, I have always wanted to help people, to be there for them, and help make their worst situation better. I have always felt the need to help people out. As a senior, I took the EMS course offered at the school through Grand County EMS. I was going to play football somewhere, but that didn’t really work, out so I decided to get into the EMS program and within the first two weeks I fell in love with it! (Editor’s Note: Tanner’s roots in EMS may have started in elementary school when he aided my son during an asthma emergency. We are forever thankful for his attentiveness in looking out for our son!)
My hauling business came about from living on a cattle ranch and hauling hay, and seeing my dad’s construction company always needing big loads hauled. So I decided I might as well make some money if I was doing it every day for my dad. So I put my name out there to have others hire me to haul their stuff.
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Grand County, and what do you love there?
A: Azteca. It’s a hard choice, though, because I truly believe Grand County has some amazing restaurants for how small we are. My favorite meal there is the fajitas, a combination of beef and chicken.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in Grand County?
A: All my life.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in Grand County?
A: I can’t really answer this because there are so many interesting people in Grand County. There is such a wide variety of people here, I can’t even tell you a name. I have been inspired by a number of people, with EMS Cooper Knochemus, Cory Burger and Chief Ray have all inspired me to be a better person. My dad inspires me every day, too, with how hard he works and the quality of his work.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: I’ve been to Alaska once, it the best trip I’ve ever been on! I’d love to go back there actually go hunting, maybe for caribou, and go fishing again.
Q: What is your favorite movie OR what is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
A: My favorite movie is either American Sniper or Hacksaw Ridge. I love war movies. Like I said before, I have always wanted to help people. I didn’t know if I was going to go the military path or the first responder path, so these movies always intrigue me the see what they had to go through to protect our country.
Q: What advice would you give to someone moving to Grand County?
A: My initial reaction to this was, “If you don’t like the cold, don’t even think about it.” But, in all seriousness, always be friendly. You never know when you’re going to be stopped on the side of the road and have a flat tire or something, and maybe that person you helped two months ago will do the same thing for you.
Q: What is on your bucket list?
A: This is a tough question because I am only twenty years old. I try to have fun in everything that I do, so I can’t answer this, yet.
Q: What is your favorite music/ 3 bands you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: Definitely country music, being born and raised on ranches, that’s what we listen to. The three bands that I would like to see are Garth Brooks, George Strait, and Brooks & Dunn. I could actually put all three on my bucket list!
Q: What are your favorite things to do in your free time?
A: With what little free time I have, I like to spend it with my family and friends. In the summer, I love to go boating and camping. In the winter, I love to go snowmobiling. Definitely, right now, I love to spend time with my girlfriend, no doubt about it!
Q: Choosing anyone in a non-relative with whom would you love to have lunch?
A: I really would like to have lunch with Tim McGraw. I have heard a lot of great things about him and he seems like a guy that has been through it all and would have a lot of great stories. I would probably take him to Azteca or Pearl Dragon.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about Grand County?
A: My favorite thing is the friendliness and the security we have here. Something unique is that we can have all four seasons in one single day!
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?
A: Growing my trucking business and getting it to the next level where if someone needs something hauled, they think of me. Hopefully, I can have a bigger truck and trailer, maybe getting into semis. I still see myself working with Grand County EMS and living up here (just maybe not with my parents!). Perhaps moving in with my wonderful girlfriend and getting married to her one day. Eventually, I would like to go to paramedic school and maybe move up in the ranks of EMS.
Q: Even for your friends or family, what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
A: I am an open person, so I don’t really care what people think about me so I tell them the truth about me. I don’t hold anything back from the ones I love and I care about.
Q: What words or phrases come to mind when you hear the word HOME?
A: “Family” because home is where my family is. “Beautiful”, and this might sound cheesy, but “Grand”, because it’s a grand place to be.
Q: If you had a full-time staff member that was fully paid for, who would you choose? Chef, Housekeeper, Driver, Coach, Physical Fitness Trainer, or Nanny?
A: A Chef. I love good food, and I love to cook, but it just takes so much time and effort to cook all of that food.
Q: If you were cast into a major motion picture and had your choice of anyone to be your co-star, who would you choose?
A: Tim McGraw, I feel he is a good guy and been to a lot of movies. He does a great job and it would be fun to work side by side with him to shoot a movie.
Q: What is one business center that you would like to see in Grand County that currently isn’t here?
A: Initially I thought I’d like to see some bigger shopping options, obviously we don’t that have available up here. But, then again, I am a small business owner and I don’t want to put that burden on other small business owners. So, instead of that, I would like to see more activities for kids to do. Something along the lines of getting kids together in a safe place doing something that’s more social but outdoors, instead of playing video games. Like a Granby Recreation Department for high schoolers!
